On the 3rd March 2011 the UK government held a referendum to decide if Wales should be devolved on 20 areas. Following the affirmative result, the Welsh Assembly assumed its new powers on 5 May 2011, enabling it to make laws in all 20 areas devolved to Wales. One of those areas is Education meaning gradually it is likely that both guidelines and law will separate between Wales and England over time.
